Conclusion

All in all, we felt that the Math and Science trail was a really enriching experience and we hoped that the same could be done to other subjects.

Group Photo :D

During the trail, our group took a group photo at the Bamboos. All of us tried to be as creative as possible in our poses. :) This is how the photo turned out to be:

Bits of the Garden

The Garden's Triple Role

*Tourist destination
*Regional park"

The Garden's Vision

"A tropical botanical garden of international renown.
A national icon, key tourist destination and flagship park."

And last but not least,

their Mission

"Connecting people and plants through publications, horticultural and botanical
displays, educational outreach, and events, provision of a key civic and
recreational space, and playing a role as an international Gardens and a regional
centre for botanical and horticultural research and training."

The Science and Math trail commenced at Botanical Gardens. The scenery was quite pretty. As we walked, we could enjoy the flowers and trees around us. However, we had some difficulty in using the Net Book to key in our answers, since it was rather bulky , and at the same time we had to protect it from the rain. We preferred writing our answers on a worksheet than using the net book to key in our answers. One of the places we visited that I liked very much was the mini bamboo forest. The place there was the prettiest to me.

The questions given were difficult, and many times we had to use a hand phone to access the Internet to search for the answers. Through this trail, I have learned a few facts about plants, our earth, math methods and others. One thing I learned, was the usage of spices, which could benefit a person's health greatly.

The trail was good experience for me as there were many opportunities to learn more about nature. There were also many chances for us to put what we learnt in school to use during the trail such as when we had to estimate the area of the Eco Lake. I think that the trail also enabled us to gain more knowledge as we had to search for clues and find out things we did not know before to answer the questions.

During the trail, I learnt many things about plants, such as their medicinal purposes and what their scientific names were. I also learnt about the evolution of plants over the millennia and how the plants came to be what they are today.

A lot of teamwork was involved and I think that improved the relationship between the members of the team. However, there was not enough time and we did not manage to go to all of the stations. I also think that the net book was hard to use as it was difficult to type while walking, but the overall experience was good. The questions were slightly challenging, but it was not too difficult for us to figure out. I liked the part where pictures were required as it gave the whole trail a more enjoyable feel. It was also fun as I got to see ducks and swans at the Eco Lake. I would recommend this trail and also join it again if I could.

The Botanic Gardens is a great place to visit and the trail arranged has been an interesting activity set in. Through the trail, I have definitely learnt more about the biodiversity and especially in the various exotic plants existing in the garden itself. It was also intriguing to take a look at the different appearances of various plant species.

I was also able to use a mixture of thinking skills which I have learnt from school to apply them when solving the trail questions. My group and I have also got the answers from the Internet through the use of Smartphone and accomplished our task of the activity.

On the whole, it was an exciting experience, being my first time visiting the Botanic Garden. Also, the digital worksheet given was also fun and challenging. Nonetheless, it would be better if more time and activities were given for the trail.

I had fun throughout the trail and learn about things that I do not know at first. I remember roughly questions like "what is the name of the fern that has compound leaves " which made us look around for the answers for quite a long time, but it was quite fun though. In addition, the place was really big and nice.

However, I preferred answering questions on worksheets rather than typing on the keyboard because it would be easier to bring worksheets around with us.

The trail at the Botanic Gardens helped to heighten my knowledge about science and math as the stations allowed me to learn the benefits of certain activities and even learn the difference between herbs and spices. Also, I learned about the importance of team spirit as teamwork and plenty of cooperation was needed from each of the members in order to complete the trail successfully.

I enjoyed myself thoroughly during the trip as we get to walk around parts of the Botanic Gardens in search of the answers to the questions posed to us. My favourite part was when we walked around the Evolution Garden. Coincidentally, it was drizzling lightly, and it added on the air of mystery to the garden.

Overall, I felt that the Math and Science Trail was quite useful and it was a really enjoyable learning experience. I really hope that more of such activities will be held in future.

Introduction

Hi, we are the owners of this blog, namely Esther, Isabel, Priscilla, Pei Min and Yu Shan, from class 2E. :) We went to the Botanic Gardens for our Math and Science Trail Challenge and we decided to share on what we learned and saw during the trip. Enjoy! :)
